The routes

The same legendary tracks as the rally, planned stage by stage around your group, your vehicle and your dates.

  • Merzouga to Smara: the great eastern crossing

Merzouga, M’Hamid, Assa, Zag, Mahbes, Farsia, Jdiriya, Hawza and Smara, with nights along the way in small towns or in the desert.

  • Draa valley and Tan-Tan to Smara

A wild approach through El Msied, Abteh and Gaat Chbabine, and a fine choice for a first Sahara expedition by 4x4.

  • Smara to Dakhla: the southern route

Via Guelta Zemmour or Oum Dreyga to Bir Anzarane, Aousserd and the Dakhla lagoon, ending by the Atlantic.

  • Laayoune to Dakhla and Guerguerat

For overlanders heading south: the Atlantic road to Dakhla and the Guerguerat border crossing towards Mauritania.

  • Prefer two wheels?

The same Paris-Dakar routes are also open to motorcycle expeditions, guided by Said.

Sahara 4x4 tours: your questions

Straight answers from a guide who grew up on these tracks.

Where do Sahara 4x4 tours in Morocco go?

Our 4x4 expeditions follow the old Paris-Dakar rally tracks of the Moroccan Sahara: the eastern crossing from Merzouga through Assa, Zag and Mahbes to Smara; the route from the Draa valley and Tan-Tan to Smara; and the southern route from Smara via Guelta Zemmour or Oum Dreyga to Aousserd and Dakhla.

Do I need off-road driving experience?

Not in our 4x4 with driver. If you travel in your own vehicle, basic sand and off-road driving skills help, and Said guides you through the difficult sections.

Is it safe to drive these desert routes?

These are remote desert routes and need serious preparation. Some areas near the defence wall are military zones and old minefields remain, so we travel only on known, authorised tracks, pass military checkpoints with the required documents, and never leave the planned route. Access rules can change, and we confirm every section before your trip.

Can families with children join a 4x4 expedition?

Yes, in our 4x4 with driver. We adapt the daily distances, stops and overnight places to the pace of your family.

Where do we sleep on the way?

Nights are planned along the route, in small guesthouses in desert towns or in desert camps where available. Everything is confirmed in your programme before you travel.

How much does a Sahara 4x4 tour cost?

Each expedition is priced by route and distance, vehicle and group size. You receive a detailed stage-by-stage programme and a fixed price before you travel.

When is the best time for a Sahara 4x4 expedition?

The cooler months, roughly October to April, are the most comfortable. In summer we plan very early starts to avoid the midday heat.
